Job Description:
The Amazon AGI Autonomy Lab is focused on developing
foundational capabilities for useful AI agents. Our mission is to
enable practical AI to make our customers more productive,
empowered, and fulfilled. Our work combines large language models
(LLMs) with reinforcement learning (RL). The Applied Science -
People Manager will build and lead a team focused on advancing
Amazon Nova, our state-of-the-art foundation model. They will
bridge research with real-world impact, ensuring our agents evolve
from today’s capabilities to solve reasoning, planning, and world
modeling in both virtual and physical environments. Key job
responsibilities You will contribute directly to AI agent
development in a research management role: leading a research team,
aligning their goals with the broader lab, mentoring team members,
and hiring great people. About the team Our lab is a small,
talent-dense team with the resources and scale of Amazon. Each team
in the lab has the autonomy to move fast and the long-term
commitment to pursue high-risk, high-payoff research. We’re
entering an exciting new era where agents can redefine what AI
makes possible. We’d love for you to join our lab and build it from
the ground up! - 2 years leading AI/ML research teams, managing 5
direct reports - Experience unifying cross-functional teams and
aligning research roadmaps with strategic goals - Advanced
proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX,
TensorFlow) with practical experience training large models at
scale - Hands-on experience scaling foundational models (e.g.,
LLMs) and applying post-training techniques - Expertise in machine
vision, autonomous systems, natural language processing, or related
AI/ML field - Proven success leading applied research projects that
deliver measurable improvements in agent intelligence or model
capabilities - Ability to develop and articulate a clear scientific
strategy that aligns with organizational goals - Experience in
mentoring and developing scientific talent, fostering a culture of
innovation and continuous learning - Ability to communicate results
and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences,
including through presentations and written reports - Capacity to
work autonomously while effectively leading a team to achieve
research objectives - Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and

the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base
salary for this position ranges from $245,000/year in our lowest
geographic market up to $350,000/year in our highest geographic
