OrganizationFounded in 1978, RCAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides training, technical and financial resources and advocacy so low-income rural communities can achieve their goals and visions. For more than 43 years, our dedicated staff and active board effected positive change in rural communities across the West. Our core values are leadership, collaboration, commitment, quality and integrity.Communications and DevelopmentThe Communications and Development (C&D) department raises funds and manages all communications for the organization. Each year, the Development team raises more than $25 million to support RCAC's work. The Communications team manages all marketing and publications and creates advocacy and social media materials. Position DescriptionThe Fund Developer trainee will work with the Fund Development Manager and the C&D Director to learn to plan, develop and secure grants, contracts and investments for the corporation. Training will include the following essential fund development skills: funder research; ability to understand a wide range of requests for proposals; coordinate, plan and write grant applications and sponsorship requests; assist with securing Loan Fund investments; schedule funder meetings and record minutes; edit, prepare, format, and package proposals; compile appendices and attachments; and submit proposals on multiple grant submission platforms. Candidates for the Fund Developer trainee position should be experienced in Microsoft Office programs and various databases and systems and possess strong writing skills with a keen attention to detail. It is expected that training will last from 12 to 18 months and will lead to promotion to Fund Developer.Specific job goals, objectives and tasks are established for each employee as part of the annual evaluation and work plan process. Examples of responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:-- Assist with grant proposal developmentAssist with fundraising for conferences and other events as neededConduct funder research and outreach; prepare debriefs for funder meetingsEdit, proofread, prepare, format and package proposal submissionsCompile appendices and attachments, including various formsSubmit grant proposals on varied platformsUse excellent written and verbal communication skills to draft a wide range of documentsUse Microsoft Office, spreadsheet, database and presentation computer softwareWork with minimum supervision and handle multiple priorities simultaneouslyFollow detailed instructionsTroubleshoot and problem solveOrganize and prioritize work to meet timelines and deadlinesWork independently and as part of a teamManage tasks and resources effectively and efficientlyBe an active member of the Communications and Development team; enhance the team's effectiveness and performancePerform other duties as assignedSkills and QualificationsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to proofread and edit documentsProficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet, database and presentation computer softwareAbility to work with minimum supervision and handle multiple priorities simultaneouslyAbility to follow detailed instructionsAbility to use initiative to troubleshoot and problem solveAbility to organize and prioritize work to meet timelines and deadlinesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamPhysical Job Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. A typical qualifying combination may be:Preferred Education:Associate's degree at a minimum. Working toward a bachelor's degree preferred.Experience:Candidates should have a strong writing background and desire to pursue Fund Development as a career.
