R&D Specialist III (Biologics Technology - Microbial Research)

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Research and Development Specialist III (Biologics Technology - Microbial Research), are to:

  • Perform basic and advance microbiology techniques related to bacterial strain propagation (liquid and solid), identification, and cryopreservation and storage;
  • Maintain bacterial strain cultures using current best practices to ensure long term viability and sustainable operations;
  • Contribute to curating and maintaining good electronic records of our microbial strains and associated metadata in LIMS and other accepted documentation systems using accepted nomenclature;
  • Operate standard and specialized laboratory equipment such as colony picker, liquid handling, automated cold storage, etc., understand basic scripting and troubleshooting of equipment;
  • Drive continuous improvement in strain collection and data management through implementing and adoption of automated workflows;
  • Generate reports and provide presentations as needed on strain collection status and needs;
  • Liaise with Shipping and Receiving to ensure delivery of biological research material to internal and external collaborators;
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety policies and practices as well as compliance.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree with at least four years of relevant experience or Master's degree with at least one year of relevant experience or Ph.D. with at least one year of relevant experience;
    • Relevant experience defined as experience in the fields of Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related fields of study;
    • A strong understanding of bacterial culture especially of soil borne organisms used for research in plant health and crop protection;
    • Strong understanding of good microbiological practice and culturing fastidious microorganisms in high throughout/automation formats;
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential as well as good oral and written communication skills;
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of specialized laboratory equipment and automation required for the maintenance, propagation, and preservation of a genetically diverse strain collection;
    • Ability to work well in a shared laboratory setting and abilityto communicate research needs to others;
    • Abilityto quickly adapt to changes in work priorities & have strong detail orientation .
